The Job of a CNA

Grove Hill AL CNA greeting patientCertified Nursing Assistants perform many functions in the Grove Hill AL hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities where they are employed. Per their title, CNAs are not licensed by the state but rather are certified. Given that they are not licensed, they work under the guidance and supervision of either a licensed LPN or RN. And as nursing assistants, their main job role is to help the licensed nurses that they work under. Their duties are numerous and diverse, and in a hospital environment might include:

  • Furnishing basic services to patients
  • Taking patient’s vital signs
  • Maintaining a record of patient’s health status
  • Bathing and dressing patients
  • Serving and aiding patients with meals
  • Conveying patients to other rooms

CNAs can also work in Grove Hill AL nursing homes or long term care centers. In those environments, nursing assistants are more engaged in aiding patients with their Activities of Daily Living (ADL). ADLs are defined as routine activities that most individuals carry out daily without help, including eating, dressing, or using the restroom. Nursing assistants commonly develop more of a bond with these patients since they usually reside in the facilities for extended time periods. Often, they may end up being the pipeline between the patient and the rest of the medical staff due to their familiarity with their charges. Because of this, the CNA’s expertise can be a valued resource for planning the appropriate care and treatment of long term care patients.

The county seat of Clarke County was established at what later became Grove Hill in 1832 as the spot was most central to the rest of the county. The town was officially incorporated and chartered in 1929.[4] In 1853, a yellow fever epidemic struck the town, killing many residents, almost wiping out the town.[5]

The Grove Hill area has numerous sites on the National Register of Historic Places including the Alston-Cobb House, Bush House, John A. Coate House, Cobb House, Dickinson House, Fort Sinquefield, and the Grove Hill Courthouse Square Historic District.[6]
